Account Manager (Expansion & Growth) | First Sales Hire | $120K Base + Super | $180–200K OTE | Fully Remote (AU)
8,000 users. 400 firms. Most of them barely scratching the surface of what they're paying for.
That's your pipeline. Not a list of cold strangers — a database of warm accounts that haven't been properly sold to yet. Your job is to change that.
What's happening at Tax Nuggets right now
Tax Nuggets Academy is a venture-backed CPD training platform built for Australian accounting firms. They've spent three and a half years proving the model — $2M ARR, 50% year-on-year revenue growth, and a product that accountants genuinely use.
The founder, Joyce, has been running commercial activity solo since day one. That's not a red flag — it's the reason this role exists. The company has enough traction to justify a dedicated sales hire. Enough runway to do it properly. And enough untapped upside in the existing customer base to keep someone busy for a long time without cold calling a single stranger.
They're also about to launch an AI add-on product. Average contract values are going up. The timing is real.
This isn't a role that got created because someone thought it might be nice to have a salesperson. It was created because the growth is already there — it just needs someone to capture it.
The Founder has also recorded a video to give you more insights into the opportunity.
Why this role
$120K base + super (negotiable for the right person) — $180–200K OTE
$2M ARR, 50% YoY growth, VC-backed — this is a business with genuine momentum
Warm expansion motion from day one — 3,000 existing users across 300+ firms, most well under-penetrated
Support from a well known Sales Consultant who's building the playbook with you — not just thrown in with a founder and told to figure it out
Direct line to the Founder — your input shapes commercial strategy, not just your own quota
AI add-on product launching soon — ACV is going up, and the commission story gets better with it
Pathway to build and lead a team if that's where you want to go — or stay a specialist and keep earning
What you'll actually do
Own a portfolio of existing accounts and drive expansion — upsell, cross-sell, seat rollouts across the wider firm
Identify under-utilised accounts (firms with one or two logins in a 20+ person practice) and convert them to firm-wide rollouts
Navigate buying conversations with accounting firm Partners and Directors — CPD compliance is the hook, individual login value is the close
Work with the Head of Growth to align messaging from top-of-funnel through to close
Contribute to shaping the expansion playbook alongside the sales consultant — this isn't a follow-the-script role
Build enough product and industry fluency to credibly discuss tax content, CPD obligations, and firm workflows with senior accountants
Who this suits
You don't need to have sold tax software before. What matters is that you've done this kind of role before — first or founding sales hire, warm or expansion-led motion, ambiguous environment — and you actually thrived in it.
Specifically:
You've been employee one, two, or three in a sales team. You know what it feels like to operate without infrastructure and you don't resent it.
You understand land and expand. Not as a concept — as a motion you've actually run.
You can hold your own in a conversation with a Partner or Director of an accounting firm. You don't need to know everything about tax. You need to know how to ask the right questions and build credibility fast.
You're self-managing. No one is going to check your calendar or chase you for activity logs. Visibility is your responsibility.
You're comfortable with healthy conflict. The founder has been running sales for three years and has strong instincts. Some of them are right. Some of them aren't. You'll need to push back without making it political.
Experience selling into accounting, bookkeeping, or professional services is useful but not a dealbreaker. Sales fundamentals and startup instincts matter more. The product knowledge can be learned. The mindset can't.
Why this is different
Most "founding sales hire" roles are someone's bad idea that got greenlit because the founder thought a salesperson would fix everything. This isn't that.
Tax Nuggets has a real product with real traction. The founder knows she doesn't have a sales background — that's not false modesty, it's why they've brought in a sales consultant to build the structure with you. You're not going in blind. You're going in with a base, a process framework, and an existing customer base that's been under-sold for years.
The risk is real — it's a startup, these things are never certain. But the infrastructure to succeed is in place. The accounts exist. The product works. The company is growing. You'd be walking into a warm pipeline, a supportive structure, and a commercial trajectory that's pointing in the right direction.
If you've done this before and you're looking for the next one — or you're an experienced expansion-focused account manager who wants to stop being one of fifteen on a mature team — pay attention to this one.
