Sales Manager – Construction Tech | Melbourne
BuildPass is building the AI-native operating system for construction, starting from AU/NZ compliance and safety, now expanding into a full platform play covering everything from first estimate through to handover. They compete with Buildertrend in residential and Procore in commercial, and they're winning enough of that fight to be prepping a Series A in the coming months.
They're now looking to elevate the Melbourne team with a dedicated Sales Manager. This role is for someone with both personal ambition and a team-first mindset. Someone who knows how to lead by example and get into deals with their team, as well as build structured sales frameworks and provide ongoing coaching and enablement.
Why This Role
Competitive base salary + super, with an uncapped OTE structure on top. Full detail shared on application
A business that's been ~85% self-funded in Australia. This isn't a team burning cash on people, it's one that's been genuinely disciplined and is now backing this hire
Series A on the horizon, with real timing to join before the next scale-up phase
Full-cycle ownership: not a dedicated SDR-lead role, you run the whole revenue engine from SDR through AE
Direct line to the co-founders
The business is shifting up-market slightly, which means the deal complexity, and your remit, grows with it
A young, still-forming team that genuinely wants and needs a coach, not a title
What You'll Actually Do
Own full-cycle sales management across three AEs and five SDRs
Coach the floor daily: call breakdowns, live feedback, the unglamorous reps-getting-better work
Jump on calls yourself. This isn't a strategy-from-the-sidelines role
Make the day-to-day management and support available to the team to reduce friction and roadblocks
Support the shift from pure SMB into lower-mid-market as deal sizes and complexity grow
Build the operating rhythm: pipeline reviews, forecasting discipline, standards that a fast-scaling team needs but hasn't had time to formalise
Work alongside a newly-appointed Head of Revenue and co-founders who are still hands-on in the business
Who This Suits
You don't need to have run a 20-person sales org. What matters is that you're hungry to build one.
You're a genuine player-coach: you want to be in the trenches, not managing from a dashboard
You've sold or managed in a high-velocity SMB motion: short cycles, sub-$15K deals, tight process
You make decisions fast and don't need a week to think it over
You're energised by developing a young team, not just chasing your own number
You can handle a fast-moving business: plans shift, priorities move, and that doesn't rattle you
Genuine interest in construction helps. You don't need the background, but you do need to actually care about the industry, not just the OTE
Some experience managing both SDRs and AEs together helps, but it's not essential. Energy, coaching instinct, and a bias for action matter more.
Why This Opportunity Is Different
Most sales manager roles at this stage are glorified admin: reporting up, managing a spreadsheet, no real authority to change anything. This isn't that.
You're stepping into a genuine vacuum at a business that's already proven it can grow (five years in market, Series A-track, real US traction) and just needs someone to run the floor. The co-founders are still close to the business, still care about getting this right, and are backing this hire with real investment in the process.
If you've been waiting for the moment to prove you can build a sales function rather than just work inside one, this is it.
