Communications and Marketing Lead, Australia | $150K Base + Super | Melbourne, hybrid
Every channel, one market, and the whole plan is yours.
Beam builds AI for frontline human services. Beam Notes takes the note-taking and admin off social workers, clinicians and support staff so they spend their time on people rather than paperwork. More than 100,000 frontline workers use it across the UK, US and Australia.
The business is backed by the founders of Booking.com, Calm, Shazam and Dropbox, and is raising a Series B.
Australia is the newest market and is already live with Life Without Barriers, where the pilot cut admin time by 51% and lifted staff satisfaction by 94%. The buyers are government departments, large not-for-profits and care providers. They buy on trust, and a lot of the pipeline here starts at an event or with the right introduction.
Beam runs marketing with one lead per market, someone who owns everything for that patch. The UK and US already have theirs. This is the Australian seat, and you would be Beam's only marketer in the country.
Why this role
$150,000 base plus superannuation
You own the strategy and the execution for all of Beam's marketing and communications in Australia
Reporting to Beam's Country Manager in Melbourne, with a dotted line to the Director of Marketing in London
Design and events support from the UK, and marketing leads in the UK and US who have built this before
Melbourne, hybrid, two to three days a week in the office
23 days annual leave plus 3 held back for Christmas, a six-week sabbatical after three years, and 18 weeks paid primary carer leave
The stories you tell are about people doing some of the hardest work there is
What you'll actually do
Learn the Australian market until the sales and customer success teams treat you as the expert on it, and work with them to spot where marketing can move a deal
Talk to customers regularly. Understand frontline work and where AI fits into it, then turn that into stories on the website, in video, on the blog, in one-pagers and on social
Find the angle. Sometimes it is AI, sometimes social care or employment, sometimes a human story or a number nobody has published yet
Run events and field marketing, from sector conferences to customer dinners, plus webinars, podcasts and virtual events
Equip sales and customer success with slides, outreach sequences, training and account-based campaigns
Run demand generation across paid and organic channels, newsletters and email
Write long-form thought leadership, such as ebooks and research reports, and the occasional award entry
Build relationships with membership bodies, partners, influencers and trade press, and spot the PR opportunities worth chasing
Who this suits
You don't need to have done every one of those things. What matters is that you own the outcome, you find the story yourself, and you pick up whatever channel the plan needs.
You have at least five years in marketing, across some mix of content, social, PR, events, email and demand generation. Whether you lean towards growth, content or field marketing matters less than whether you will take on the rest
You are a storyteller who knows what makes people stop and read
You still enjoy the writing itself. AI makes you faster, and you keep the judgement
You write in clear, plain English and can pitch it right for a senior government official, a frontline support worker or someone thinking about joining Beam
You are comfortable being the only marketer in your time zone and building the relationships the job depends on
You pick up tools quickly. Beam uses HubSpot, Webflow, Figma and Customer.io
Experience in a tech startup or scale-up helps a lot. A background in health, care, government or not-for-profit marketing helps too, though curiosity about the sector matters more than having worked in it.
What success looks like
Within your first few months, you know the Australian market well enough that sales asks for your view before an event, not after it
The first Australian customer stories are out and the sales team is using them
Events are planned months out, chosen for the pipeline they bring, and followed up properly
Beam is in the sector press, on the right stages and in the right member networks
Twelve months in, you have built the Australian marketing playbook and shared what works with the UK and US teams
Why this one is different
Most marketing roles at this level give you a channel and a calendar somebody else wrote. You get good at your part and rarely see the whole plan.
This one gives you the whole plan for a market. You decide where the effort goes and you do the work, with a company behind you that has built this in two other markets and is serious about this one. The product is easy to explain and worth explaining.
The part worth saying plainly: you are the only marketer in Australia, and your marketing colleagues are mostly asleep while you work. There is interstate travel for events. There is no Australian playbook, and writing it is part of the job.
