Business Development Representative | Fintech | $75K Base + $125K OTE | Melbourne (Hyrbid)
Break into tech sales properly. Learn the craft. Build a career, not just a CV.
This is one of those roles people look back on and say, "That's where it started."
An Australian fintech with genuine product-market fit has just raised $18 million and is on the path to IPO. Revenue is strong. Demand is real. The product sells because it solves an actual problem, not because someone forces a demo.
Now they're building. Fast.
They've stood up a dedicated outbound function and are looking for a BDR to own the advisory side — calling into financial services firms, wealth advisers, and related accounts. It's targeted work. Not spray-and-pray. You'll be going after a defined market where you can actually learn how complex B2B sales work.
This is a structured, well-coached environment. You won't be thrown a headset and a list. You'll learn how to prospect intelligently, qualify properly, and build the kind of habits that create long sales careers.
Why this role?
$75K base + $125K OTE — clear comp structure with real upside
$18M raise, strong revenue, genuine product-market fit
Pre-IPO — join at the stage where careers and trajectories get made
Hybrid working — Melbourne-based with flexibility built in
Dedicated outbound function being built from scratch — join early, shape it
Clear path into Account Executive as the business scales toward listing
Proper training, coaching, and sales leadership in place
Financial services sector focus — develop specialist market knowledge from day one
What you'll actually do
Prospect into financial advisory and financial services accounts via phone, email, and LinkedIn
Run structured outbound sequences and book qualified meetings for AEs
Qualify prospects by understanding their actual problems, not just confirming budget
Collaborate with sales and marketing to sharpen messaging for the advisory segment
Learn and apply discovery frameworks that translate to a closing role over time
Keep CRM activity accurate, disciplined, and consistent
Build the fundamentals — call volume, pipeline hygiene, objection handling — that compound into a serious sales career
Who this suits
You don't need to be a seasoned salesperson. What matters is how you show up.
You're curious — you want to understand how financial services firms buy and what actually matters to them
You're disciplined and consistent, not just motivated in short bursts
You bounce back from rejection without needing a pep talk every time
You take feedback and apply it, fast
You want to understand the craft of sales, not just hit a number and collect a paycheck
Some background in financial services — whether in an advice firm, a support role, or a related business — is genuinely useful here. You'll be calling into people who can spot an imposter. Knowing the landscape matters.
What success looks like
Consistent outbound activity with improving conversion rates from contact to meeting
Quality booked meetings that AEs value and want to take
Growing confidence and fluency on calls, even the hard ones
Visible progression toward a closing role as the business scales toward IPO
Being someone this business wants to back — and take with them — for the long term
